Privacy Policy – Happy Notes

This Privacy Policy describes how Happy Notes Music (“we,” “our,” or “us”) collects, uses, retains, and protects the personal information of individuals who use the Happy Notes mobile application (“App”). By creating an account or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account and Authentication Data

When you create an account, we collect information necessary to authenticate you and maintain your access to the App. This includes:

  • Username and email address (when signing up directly)
  • Google account information provided through Clerk (when choosing Google Sign-In)
  • Authentication identifiers issued by Firebase and Clerk

We do not collect or store your Google account passwords.

1.2 Learning Activity and Progress Data

The App tracks user engagement with guitar lessons, quizzes, challenges, and paid courses. We collect:

  • Quiz responses and quiz scores
  • Challenge attempts and completion states
  • Course progress history
  • Time spent within lessons and modules
  • Playlists saved or shared

This data enables the App to deliver personalized learning features and maintain accurate training histories.

1.3 Usage, Device, and Diagnostic Data

We use Firebase Analytics to collect usage and diagnostic information. This includes:

  • Device type, operating system version, and basic device attributes
  • Interaction patterns within the App
  • Error events, crash information, and performance metrics
  • Aggregated behavioral analytics used for product improvement

This information does not contain sensitive identifiers beyond the standard analytics parameters collected by Firebase.

1.4 App Content Access

The App provides audio lessons, guitar demonstration tracks, and other internal content. These audio files are delivered as part of the educational experience.

The App does not record user audio, collect user recordings, or access the device microphone for any user-generated media.

1.5 Payment Information

Paid courses are processed by Razorpay. Razorpay receives whatever information is necessary to complete the transaction, but we do not store:

  • Card numbers
  • Banking details
  • Billing addresses
  • Any sensitive payment credentials

All payment data remains with Razorpay in accordance with their policies.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  1. Account Management – to authenticate users, maintain login sessions, and manage user profiles.
  2. Learning Services – to operate quizzes, challenges, progress tracking, and lesson delivery.
  3. Performance Optimization – to monitor stability, identify technical issues, and refine App performance.
  4. Content Access Control – to ensure appropriate access to free and paid learning materials.
  5. Security and Fraud Prevention – to protect user accounts and maintain the integrity of our systems.
  6. Customer Support – to respond to inquiries and assist users with account or usage issues.

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information for marketing purposes.

3. How We Share Information

We share data only with service providers that are essential for App functionality:

3.1 Firebase (Google)

Used for authentication, database storage, file storage, and analytics. Firebase stores your learning progress, account metadata, and certain usage metrics.

3.2 Clerk

Used exclusively to manage Google Sign-In and user authentication workflows.

3.3 Razorpay

Used to process payments for paid course offerings. Payment information is handled and stored by Razorpay, not by us.

Each third-party provider is contractually obligated to use the information solely to perform services on our behalf and to maintain appropriate security.

We do not share personal data with advertising networks or unrelated third parties.

4. Advertising and Notifications

4.1 Advertising

Used for authentication, database storage, file storage, and analytics. Firebase stores your learning progress, account metadata, and certain usage metrics.

4.2 Notifications

The App does not currently send push notifications. If this changes in the future, users will be asked to grant permission before notifications are enabled.

5. Data Storage and Security

All user information is stored on Firebase servers using Firebase’s built-in security and encryption standards. This includes:

  • Encryption in transit (HTTPS)
  • Encryption at rest
  • Role-based access controls
  • Standardized authentication protocols

While no online platform can guarantee absolute security, we implement reasonable and appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain user information for as long as the account remains active. Once a deletion request is received at happynotesmusic2@gmail.com, we will:

  • Permanently delete authentication credentials
  • Remove or anonymize all learning activity, progress data, and associated identifiers
  • Complete deletion within 30 days

Some aggregated or anonymized analytics may continue to exist in non-identifiable form, solely for performance analysis and operational reporting.

7. Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

The App is intended for individuals 13 years of age or older.
We do not knowingly collect, store, or solicit personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has created an account, we will promptly delete all associated data.

Parents or guardians may contact us to request deletion.

8. International Users and GDPR Rights

If you access the App from the European Union, you are entitled to the following rights under the GDPR:

  • The right to request access to your personal data
  • The right to request correction of inaccurate data
  • The right to request deletion of your data
  • The right to restrict or object to processing
  • The right to request a copy of your data

We rely on your consent and our legitimate interest in providing the App as legal bases for processing.

9. Disclosure of Your Personal Data

9.1 Business Transactions

If we are ever involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, your Personal Data may be transferred. We will provide notice before your Personal Data is transferred and becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy. 

9.2 Law Enforcement

Under certain circumstances, we may be required to disclose Your Personal Data – if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g. a court or a government agency). 

9.3 Other Legal Requirements

We may disclose Your Personal Data in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:

  • Comply with a legal obligation 
  • Protect and defend the rights or property of the Company 
  • Prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Service 
  • Protect the personal safety of Users of the Service or the public 
  • Protect against legal liability

10. Your Choices

You may exercise control over your data in the following ways:

  • Request account deletion at any time
  • Discontinue use of the App
  • Adjust device-level permissions where applicable
  • Disable analytics in applicable device settings (where supported)

11. Links to Other Websites

Our App may contain links to other websites that are not operated by us. If you click on a third party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites or services.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy to reflect updates to our data practices, App functionality, or legal requirements. The “Last Updated” date will indicate when changes take effect. Continued use of the App after revisions becomes acceptance of the updated terms.
