Tension — leads to resolve
Free notes
🎵 Your melody can be anything within these 8 notes. Mix them freely — the only rule is to start and end on fret 0 or 12 (both are E, your home note). Try fret 11 → 12 for that iconic Harmonic Minor resolve.

3 Tips to Nail It
Play it
Like You Mean It
1
Start & end on fret 0 or 12
These are both E — your home note. Anchor your melody there and it'll feel complete and resolved, not like it just stopped.
2
Use fret 11 → 12 for drama
Fret 11 is D#, the raised 7th of Harmonic Minor. It creates intense tension. Resolve into fret 12 and you'll feel it instantly — that's the signature sound of this scale.
3
Pick 4–5 frets, not all 8
A melody tells a story, not a scale. Choose a few notes, build a motif, go somewhere, come home. Less is more expressive.

Your Tasks
Build, Record &
Upload Your Melody
Identify and play each of the 8 frets (0, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 12) individually so you know what each one sounds like. Pay special attention to fret 11 — it has a tension that's unique to Harmonic Minor.
Choose any 4–6 frets and arrange them into a short motif — a 3 to 4 note idea as the core of your melody. Try ending on fret 11 → 12 at least once to feel that Harmonic Minor resolve.
Record your best take and upload it. This is the submission that gets rated on the leaderboard.
